Music Teacher Brian Querry Has Big News — He’s a Semifinalist for a National Award!

2019 could be a big year for Huston Middle School music teacher Brian Querry and his students. Mr. Querry is a semifinalist for the 2019 Music Educator Award from the Recording Academy and Grammy Museum — the same group that also hosts the renowned Grammy Awards!

Roughly 3,000 music teachers across the country were nominated for this award, and Mr. Querry is now one of only 25 semifinalists. In December, the top 10 nominees will be announced. The winner, chosen for his or her lasting impact in the field of music studies, will receive cash prizes for themselves and for their school district. Plus, they’ll make an appearance on the yearly Grammy Award telecast.

“I am humbled and honored to have been selected as one of the national semifinalists for this year’s Grammy Music Educator Award,” says Mr. Querry. “Thousands of music educators across the country were nominated and applied. When I first got the email notifying me that I was a semifinalist, I was both excited and humbled at the same time.

“This recognition goes just as much to my students, who help make me a better educator every day, and whose hard work and dedication allow our programs to excel. For every one of the teachers who is recognized, there are thousands of equally exceptional music educators out there deserving of the award.”

In the upcoming year, Mr. Querry plans to “continue to look at ways to reach out to the community, enhance and expand BAM Night, and provide more and greater opportunities to our students,” he says.” This school year, Ms. Corsi will be hosting WCMEA County Chorus in November, and Mr. Pagnotta is hosting PMEA District 1 East Band in January.

We are beyond proud of and excited for Mr. Querry to have made it this far, and we’ll be cheering him on as December draws nearer. Whether or not he comes away with the title, Mr. Querry has already won in the eyes of his students and the District!
