New Look for Computer Programming Courses

In today’s world, computer science and coding are basic skills that all students will need as they continue their education or enter into the workforce, much like reading and writing. To prepare students for a fast-paced, technology-driven future, Burrell School District has recently started integrating CodeHS computer programming software into classrooms.

This is the first year that BSD is utilizing CodeHS. This new software is replacing Zulama, a similar platform that used a different coding language, which became problematic. The CodeHS platform offers a variety of individual courses, including intro to JAVA, intro to Python, web design, and the new AP Computer Science Principles course that is now available to high school students.

“The majority of our coding classes are run out of CodeHS,” says Burrell High School Principal John Boylan. “We’re still working through some of the kinks since this is our first year trying it, but this platform should be an easier and more effective learning tool for our students.”
