The Burrell Education Foundation Has New Director, but Continues Same Mission

Huston Middle School Principal Mr. Brian Ferra has recently been named the new Director of the Burrell Education Foundation, but the non-profit organization plans to continue full speed ahead on its current initiatives.

The Burrell Education Foundation has played a key role in enriching education and creative learning opportunities for Burrell students since it was founded back in 1983. The Foundation, which is made up of district educators, parents, and community members, strives to provide additional private funding to enhance education and offer higher-education opportunities to students in the Burrell School District. This mission is made possible through not only grant funding and donations, but also a growing list of fundraising opportunities put together by the BEF.

Most recently, the Burrell Education Foundation hosted a Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Luncheon at the high school, which took place on November 16th. This event is just one example of the many ways that the Foundation strives to give back to the community throughout the year, as well as to encourage parent, family, and community engagement with our schools.

If you missed the luncheon, don’t worry. There are plenty of other upcoming fundraising events to participate in to help support the BEF’s efforts, so mark your calendars:

• Sunday, February 25th – Annual Bowl-A-Thon at Wildlife Lanes in Lower Burrell
• Saturday, April 21st – Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra at Burrell High School
• Monday, June 11th – 18th Annual Golf Outing at Hill Crest Country Club

Thanks to grants, donations, and fundraising events like these, the Burrell Education Foundation has been able to offer generous scholarships and fellowship opportunities to many Burrell seniors so that they can go on to receive post-secondary education. The newest fellowship that the Foundation has organized will be the Sharon Regoli Ciferno Fellowship.

“We plan to continue to support educational initiatives and continue to provide scholarships to help our students succeed as best we can,” says Ferra.
