Burrell’s “Stellar Spellers”

District Spelling Bee Crowns Champion

Seven weeks of studying and practicing paid off for three elementary students when they were named Burrell’s top spellers on May 31. Thirty students participated in the second-annual Elementary School District Champion Spelling Bee at the Stewart School auditorium before an audience of family, friends, and faculty. After nearly four grueling hours of spelling, second grade student Georgia Brothers took top honors, with third-grader Carson Ley and fifth-grader Lucas Ciesielski placing second and third, respectively.

Stewart Elementary School students successfully concluded their celebration of Earth Week On April 26th by learning about agriculture from Pennsylvania’s highest-ranking official in the field – Secretary of Agriculture George Greig. State Representatives Eli Evankovich and Joe Petrarca also were on hand for the educational program.

Stewart Elementary principal Greg Egnor and a team of four Burrell teachers recently attended the Children’s Engineering Convention in Richmond, VA. New Anti-Bullying Program at Stewart Elementary

Elementary school guidance counselor Denise Schrock made her way through the Stewart School cafeteria, introducing students to each other as they sat at lunch tables. Some students eagerly made small talk with their new acquaintances, while others quietly nibbled their chicken nuggets.

TEC Time Takes Off at Stewart

Engineering is Elementary (EiE) Curriculum Introduced 

Stewart Elementary students and teachers got a jumpstart on the second semester by launching the innovative new Engineering is Elementary (EiE) curriculum that will serve as a cornerstone of STEM education at the school.

Developed by the Boston Museum of Science, EiE fosters engineering and technological literacy among young learners. It revolves around the simple premise that although every student will not become an engineer (noun), they all can engineer (verb) – and that’s exactly what’s happening in Stewart Elementary classrooms today.

STEM Fitness Debuts at Stewart

The fourth and fifth grade students at Stewart Elementary School are getting their first taste of the new STEM curriculum – in the gymnasium, of all places!

“The STEM program is really about making science, technology, engineering and mathematics relevant in today’s world,” says Stewart Principal Gregory Egnor. “Our gym teachers are taking a leading role in this. The new gym program is making technology relevant to the children’s fitness needs.”
